Located within the Canal Interpretive Center, the interactive canal museum invites visitors to step through time and learn how the Wabash & Erie Canal changed Indiana and the Midwest in the 1800’s.
Named the “Best New Volunteer Driven Museum in the United States” upon its opening, you’ll quickly learn why this is a must-see for adults and children alike!

Visits to the museum are self-guided, but there is a video tour available upon request at the museum front desk.
In the museum, you will encounter unique interactive exhibits designed with children (and children at heart) in mind. You can operate a lock, visit a full-sized canal boat cabin, and even stretch out on a canal builder’s cabin bunk. Learn how local paper mills produced paper, or how Delphi-area lime kilns provided building materials like plaster and mortar to the Midwest and beyond. Visit the millinery shop where kids can dress in an 1800’s costume, and so much more!
