The mission of Carroll County Wabash & Erie Canal, Inc. is to preserve portions of the Wabash & Erie Canal and educate the public by developing education, recreation, and preservation programs relevant to the Canal and the Canal Era.
Canals played historical roles in their respective states. The Wabash & Erie Canal was particularly influential in Indiana’s early development, and provided some motivation for writing Indiana’s second constitution.
When completed, the Wabash & Erie Canal stretched 468 miles from Toledo, Ohio to Evansville, Indiana. Carroll County Wabash & Erie Canal Inc. is preserving the only remaining, public recreational section of the Wabash & Erie Canal left in Indiana. This helps provide a historical perspective for thousands of visitors each year.
