What is the 468 Mile Club?
What is this thing called the 468 Mile Club? And how did it get its name?
The 468 Mile Club is a new informal association of donors who are joining together to lend support to the Wabash & Erie Canal organization.
As for the name? If you know your Wabash & Erie Canal history, you know that the Canal ran for 468 miles from Toledo through Indiana to Evansville. The name reminds us of the Canal’s importance to Indiana’s early development.
To become a member, a donor agrees to give an annual gift of $468.00 to Wabash & Erie Canal Inc. Donors may join the club at any time during the year.
Each donation helps assure the essential upkeep of the restored Canal, our interpretive museum, our Delphi canal boat, extensive archives, hiking trails, and the impressive display of 1800s historic canal-era buildings in Canal Park’s pioneer village.
The Club’s 25 Charter Members donated $468 each in 2017, its founding year, and pledged to continue their support annually. Our 468 Mile Club members know that it is our responsibility to maintain the restored remnants of our historic canal.
